Feel free to comment on the love declarations, but please remember to remain courteous at all times.

You’re so gorgeous, oh dear Din
There’s nothing in the universe to thee akin
There are times I feel I’d choose you over my kin
For without thee, my layouts go to the bin
Your absence makes me want to drown myself in gin
Not having you on my Mac is an unpardonable sin
You’re so gorgeous, oh dear Din
Don’t you see, we’re made for each other like Yang and Yin

  1. Not having been active in the Typophile forum for a long time, it’s good to know that Chris Lozos is still one hell of a punner!

Posted by Bram Pitoyo on Feb. 10, 2011
  2. @ Bram, … in this case one hell of a pruner of French cheese!

Posted by Arno Kathollnig on Feb. 10, 2011
  3. Dear Nina, let me know what type of wine you drank during your family birthday celebration on Saturday. This stuff seems to be predestined to achieve resounding success on the market of aphrodisiacs. Great submission—I ❤ it!

Posted by Arno Kathollnig on Feb. 13, 2011
  4. Heh, thanks, Arno. Must’ve been the wine – it’s from a local vineyard. Secret Swiss type lovers’ potion I guess. :-)
BTW, your own submission is impressive!

Posted by Nina Stössinger on Feb. 13, 2011
  5. Thanks Nina, I got the message! It’s a kind of »seshatisiac« respectively »typodisiac«. ;)

Posted by Arno Kathollnig on Feb. 13, 2011
  6. Some really good stuff already. Makes me want to join in (although I can’t win anything – that would hardly be fair, would it?).

  7. With a little over 24 hours to go we now have 49 entries! One more and the contest is valid. : )

  8. Yves, then join in ;)

Posted by Zita on Feb. 14, 2011
  9. And we have 50. Spontaneous celebrations erupt worldwide! ; )

  10. Glad to be of help!

Posted by Coert on Feb. 14, 2011
  11. I can guarantee there will be at least one more contribution. Mail is on the way.

(Which shall not hold you off, Yves, from adding your own love declaration.)

Posted by Gerhard Großmann on Feb. 14, 2011
  12. I think Matthias Moll and David Boni’s entries are my favourites so far. The punnage is strong with this lot.

Posted by Robert O'Rourke on Feb. 14, 2011
  13. Gerhard’ equal’s sign lipstick kiss gives a nice modernist look to a romanticist topic. Nina’s animated mover gives rise to the occasion. And, Arno, Lotta is married to a nice guy already :-)
I got a hearty laugh from Aliz Borsa’s Poster Bodoni.

Oh, and, Bram, I don’t pun, I just talk funny ;-)

Posted by Chris Lozos on Feb. 14, 2011
  14. Zita, I’ll add mine to signal the competition closes.

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 14, 2011
  15. Only two hours left to submit your entry to Valentype! Don’t panic if your submission is not added right away. I am barely out of bed, and first need to drive little Nona to school and then go to the dentist.

  16. Tick tock tick tock, ten minutes to go.

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 15, 2011
  17. Et voilà – 40% more entries than last edition two years ago, with some very good ones. I am assembling a jury, and we will reveal the five winners by the end of this week.

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 15, 2011
  18. Anchor = Maple isn’t it?

Posted by Pieter van Rosmalen on Feb. 15, 2011
  19. I wouldn’t know. Is that a previous name, or does the family have several names?

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 15, 2011
  20. Yves: have you posted all the entries now?

Posted by Maurice Meilleur on Feb. 15, 2011
  21. Dang, I somehow skipped yours. I’m adding it in the right chronological spot.

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 15, 2011
  22. Thanks, Yves! And thanks for running the contest.

Posted by Maurice Meilleur on Feb. 15, 2011
  23. Anchor is a typeface by Eric Olsen.

Posted by Pieter van Rosmalen on Feb. 15, 2011
  24. Oh, now I see. FontShop doesn’t carry it yet. I can understand the confusion. If this submission is amongst the winners we’ll find a solution I am sure.

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 15, 2011
  25. Haha, it’s supposed to be “anonymous” with Dolly… don’t tell my girlfriend.

Posted by David Boni on Feb. 15, 2011
  26. Thanks, Yves. I didn’t see the comment before I emailed you (and tweeted about it). Even though the rules don’t mention the FontShop database, if Process doesn’t offer Anchor for a licensing reason, I’ll comply. Hopefully they’ll appreciate the love regardless. :)

Posted by André Mora on Feb. 15, 2011
  27. Yep, Anchor is from the Process Type Foundry! If you’ll allow the submission, and André should win, we’ll make good on the promise of a license.

  28. My subjective awards for excellence:

    Words: Anil Kakar | Klavika
»Minimalist« typo: Aliz Borsa | Poster Bodoni
    Esprit: Nina Stössinger | Parry
Orthography, faux pas culinaire: Chris »Dezcom« Lozos | Bree, Brie, Cheese …

Posted by Arno Kathollnig on Feb. 15, 2011
  29. Hi, Yves. I submitted two, one for Calluna and one for FF Milo Web Pro. I don’t see them here–did you get them? I was certain they were the right size and file type…

Posted by Nick Cox on Feb. 15, 2011
  30. Nick, I am terribly sorry; I did a wide Search for “Cox” in my e-mail client but couldn’t find your submissions. Could you forward them to me (not resend)?

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 16, 2011
  31. Even though the rules don’t mention the FontShop database (…)

I see where it went wrong – the rules specify “We will not accept love declarations for fonts not included in the libraries of the participating foundries listed below.” I linked all the foundries to their respective pages on FontShop.com, to allow the contestants to check which fonts can be chosen. A minority of the foundries have fonts that are not available through FontShop (yet).

Posted by Yves Peters on Feb. 16, 2011
  32. Hi, Yves! Thanks for the consideration. I just forwarded them to you, though now I’m realizing they say “Fwd: Valentype2011″ instead of just “Valentype 2011″. Hope that works for you.

Posted by Nick Cox on Feb. 16, 2011
  33. Nick, still no luck. No e-mails from you anywhere to be found. I really don’t know what you’re doing wrong. : /
